In 2006, Māori comprised 14 percent of the New Zealand population. Females made up 51 percent of the Māori population, and males 49 percent. In comparison with non-Māori, Māori constituted a very youthful population: 35 percent of Māori were aged less than 15 years, compared with only 19 percent of non-Māori
