DHB attainment analysis

Below is a description of the DHBs with: the most candidates attaining 14 or more credits in a science subject in 2007; the highest attainment rates in 2007; the largest increases in numbers attaining 14 or more credits in a science subject between 2004 and 2007; and the largest increases in attainment rates between 2004 and 2007.

Year 11 Māori Candidates Attainment (3093 Nationally)

In 2007, the three DHBs with the highest numbers of Year 11 Māori candidates attaining 14 or more credits in a science subject were:
  • Waikato DHB, 334 candidates
  • Counties Manukau DHB, 267 candidates
  • Northland DHB, 256 candidates.

In 2007, the three DHBs with the highest percentage of Year 11 Māori candidates attaining 14 or more credits in a science subject were:
  • Otago DHB, 53.4% - (94 of 176 candidates)
  • Whanganui DHB, 50.2% - (111 of 221 candidates)
  • Hawke's Bay, 47.8% - (210 of 439 candidates).

Between 2004 and 2007, the three DHBs with the highest increases in the number of Year 11 Māori candidates attaining 14 or more credits in a science subject were:
  • Counties Manukau DHB, 103 candidates - (164 to 267 candidates)
  • Northland DHB, 92 candidates - (164 to 256 candidates)
  • Hawke's Bay DHB, 76 candidates - (134 to 210 candidates).

Between 2004 and 2007, the three DHBs with the highest percentage increases in the number of Year 11 Māori candidates attaining 14 or more credits in a science subject were:
  • West Coast DHB, 88.9% - (9 to 17 candidates)
  • Whanganui DHB, 85.0% - (60 to 111 candidates)
  • Counties Manukau, 62.8% - (164 to 267 candidates).

Year 12 Māori Candidates Attainment (1072 Nationally)

In 2007, the three DHBs with the highest numbers of Year 12 Māori candidates attaining 14 or more credits a science subject were:
  • Waikato DHB, 122 candidates
  • Bay of Plenty DHB, 89 candidates.
  • Canterbury DHB, 85 candidates.

In 2007, the three DHBs with the highest percentage of Year 12 Māori candidates attaining 14 or more credits a science subject were:
  • Canterbury DHB, 57.8% - (85 of 147 candidates)
  • Otago, 54.7% - (35 of 64 candidates)
  • Whanganui DHB, 53.2% - (33 of 62 candidates).

Between 2004 and 2007, the three DHBs with the highest increases in the number of Year 12 Māori candidates attaining 14 or more credits in a science subject were:
  • Bay of Plenty DHB, 43 candidates - (46 to 89 candidates)
  • Counties Manukau DHB, 34 candidates - (36 to 70 candidates)
  • Canterbury DHB, 32 candidates - (53 to 85 candidates).

Between 2004 and 2007, the three DHBs with the highest percentage increases in the number of Year 12 Māori candidates attaining 14 or more credits in a science subject were:
  • Wairarapa DHB, 140.0% - (5 to 12 candidates)
  • Hutt DHB, 127.8% - (18 to 41 candidates)
  • Nelson Marlborough, 108.3% - (12 to 25 candidates).

Year 13 Māori Candidates Attainment (452 Nationally)

In 2007, the three DHBs with the highest numbers of Year 13 Māori candidates attaining 14 or more credits in a science subject were:
  • Waikato DHB, 55 candidates
  • Northland DHB, 49 candidates
  • Waitemata DHB, 44 candidates.

In 2007, the three DHBs with the highest percentage of Year 13 Māori candidates attaining 14 or more credits in a science subject were:
  • Canterbury DHB, 61.4% - (35 of 57 candidates)
  • Whanganui DHB, 55.6% - (10 of 18 candidates)
  • Lakes DHB, 55.0% - (22 of 40 candidates).

Between 2004 and 2007, the three DHBs with the highest increases in the number of Year 13 Māori candidates attaining 14 or more credits in a science subject were:
  • Northland DHB, 25 candidates - (24 to 49 candidates)
  • Waitemata DHB, 23 candidates - (21 to 44 candidates)
  • Auckland DHB, 15 candidates - (20 to 35 candidates).

Between 2004 and 2007, the three DHBs with the highest percentage increases in the number of Year 13 Māori candidates attaining 14 or more credits in a science subject were:
  • Tairawhiti DHB, 125.0% - (4 to 9 candidates)
  • Waitemata DHB, 109.5% - (21 to 44 candidates)
  • Northland DHB, 104.2% - (24 to 49 candidates).
