Attainment Analysis: All science subjects, Year 11 to 13 candidates

Year 11 Candidates

In 2007, there were 3090 Year 11 Māori candidates who attained 14 or more credits in a science subject, an increase of 694 candidates from 2004 (table 1).

Between 2004 and 2007, the attainment rate of Year 11 Māori candidates in a science subject remained around 40%. During the same time, the non-Māori Year 11 rate decreased from 63.9% to 62.0%.

Year 12 Candidates

In 2007, there were 1072 Year 12 Māori candidates who attained 14 or more credits in a science subject, an increase of 351 candidates from 2004 (table 2).

Between 2004 and 2007, the attainment rate of Year 12 Māori candidates in a science subject increased by 4.7% to 43.2%. During the same time the non-Māori rate increased by 2.0% to 65.4%. This means that the gap between Year 12 Māori and non-Māori candidates’ attainment rates reduced from 24.9% in 2004 to 22.2% in 2007.

Year 13 Candidates

In 2007, there were 452 Year 13 Māori candidates who attained 14 or more credits in a science subject, an increase of 98 candidates from 2004 (table 3).

Between 2004 and 2007, the attainment rate of Year 13 Māori candidates in a science subject increased by 2.0% to 44.8%. During the same time, the non-Māori Year 13 candidates’ attainment rate remained around 65%.
