He Korowai Oranga

In He Korowai Oranga (PDF, 839 KB) (the Māori Health Strategy) the three principles - Partnership, Participation and Protection are clearly articulated in line with Māori expectations of their relationship with the Crown in the health and disability sector.

The overall aim of He Korowai Oranga in whānau ora – Māori families supported to achieve their maximum health and wellbeing and achieving whānau ora is what He Korowai seeks to achieve.

Achieving whānau Ora

In setting out to achieve the overall aim – whānau ora, He Korowai Oranga has two broad directions (1. Māori Aspirations and 2. Contributions and Crown Aspirations and Contribution) which acknowledge the partnership between Māori and the Crown. Within the context of these two broad directions three key themes (1. Rangatiratanga, 2. Building on the Gains and 3. Reducing Inequalities) are woven through the strategy. Finally four pathways (1. Whānau, Hapū, Iwi, Community Development. 2. Māori Participation, 3. Effective Service Delivery and 4. Working Across Sectors) set out how whanu ora will be achieved. This structure for He Korowai Oranga and how He Korowai Oranga works is illustrated in a triangle with whānau ora at the top.
