Korowai Aroha Trust was highly commended in the Whānau Ora Awards category, Whānau Whānui. Their whānau ora model encompasses a huge range of primary and secondary care for anyone choosing to use their services. Their model 'Whānau Ora : Mauri Ora' is a practical model that has developed over twelve years.
They started as a team of Māori nurses, with no contracts and employing their own doctors. Today they have 5,500 turoro enrolled and funding in excess of $1.3 million. Korowai Aroha work to support the total well being of Māori and other priority groups in its community with the right services, systems and tools in place to achieve this.
Affordability, accessibility and cultural acceptability are key themes in the extraordinary development and implementation of Whānau Ora : Māori Ora -Total Wellbeing.
