The Strategic Research Agenda for He Korowai Oranga was released in April 2005 at a recent Mäori health researchers hui. The Strategic Research Agenda aims to build an evidence base for He Korowai Oranga that is supported by a coordinated and resourced Mäori health research community. The Strategic Research Agenda sets out the framework for building the evidence base through three objectives and associated actions.

In 2004 the Ministry of Health sought views on the development of a Monitoring Framework and Strategic Research Agenda for He Korowai Oranga. Focus group meetings were held around the country in May 2004 and submissions were requested. The Mäori Health Directorate is confident the Strategic Research Agenda reflects what they heard at focus group hui last year and through the submission process.

There is still much work to be done and the focus for this year will be on implementing the Strategic Research Agenda, identifying priorities for Mäori led research with the Health Research Council and conducting another hui with a focus on whänau ora research and evaluation.
